Peer Pitch and Concept Refinement Chart
My pitch was successful because the calls liked it and my teacher, however the girl that pitched before us had the same concept as us. So, our teacher helped us make sure they were different enough.
I thought the feedback from my pitch was helpful because our concept was very similar to our other classmate. Some feedback was to be careful and talk to our classmate to make sure the magazines aren’t similar. This did impact our vision because we needed to rethink some things about our concept like we weren’t going to do just families for our target audience, but people thought it was best if we do. The family travel concept became the most unique part of our magazine because there are not a lot of family travel magazines.
The research I looked at supported my magazine, for example, “Although competition is becoming more and more fierce, the total number of magazine readers in the U.S. has actually seen a slight increase since 2012.” this shows that magazines are still in business and are making more money than before.
The magazine I was assigned to was, “The Abundance, Joy, Beauty, Persistence, Power, and Potential of Independent Publishing: A CONVERSATION WITH SIX BLACK EDITIORS”, it says, “Rather than speak from the deficit model that is often employed when people discuss literature by and about people of color, I want to begin with abundance, with joy. Much of what I want to do as an editor is to stretch our ability to see beauty and potential in new places and ways. Through literature we formulate our cultural imagination. We turn to literature in part to understand who we have been and who we can be. As editors we are charged with shepherding new ways of seeing, thinking, and being into the world.” Meaning that editors really just want their readers to see better things shine through literature and they want their magazines to do that.

| My magazine was similar to someone else's, so I believe this concept is best. Most said that they like the idea but just need to refine it and specify it more towards family traveling. |
