Creativity and Genre
The importance of creativity and the creative process when embarking upon a new endeavor in a field ripe with new choices is that creativity expand new innovations and idea to electrify your work. For example, in “Ted Talk: The theory of Creativity”, the speaker describes creativity as imagination. He explains how before we turn around six years old, we are imaginative, curious, and not afraid to think of anything that comes to our minds. However, after we turn six or seven years old and up to your current age, we lose our creativity tremendously. Children are curious, adults are reductive with the fear of failure. Most adults think while at work or somewhere in that kind environment forget they have time to think, this is unrelated stimulus meaning they will “get back to it later”. Adults think too much of the past. Past thinking is the biggest boundary guarding creativity and innovation. Therefore, creativity is important, it creates new innovations and ideas.
For my portfolio project I chose to do a magazine. I chose a magazine type to be about my generation and what we experience day-to-day. My research showed that most magazines on this subject expressed how other generations don’t like our generations, but there is a lot of good things too like how are involved in activism, fighting for rights, and politics. For example: “Thanks to social media, Gen Zers also tend to be informed about and active in conversations surrounding activism and social justice from an earlier age than previous generations. And where Millennials honed in on environmental activism, Gen Z is most passionate about advocating for human equality: racial, gender, and sexual orientation.” and “Thanks to social media and growing cultural diversity, Gen Z is becoming passionate about social justice issues and activism at a much earlier age than previous generations. Connected to the globe through their digital social networks and Facebook feeds, they are actively involved in international conversations surrounding issues like Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ rights. Topics that were once easy to ignore or deemed impolite to discuss have risen to the fore, and Gen Z wants to see companies involved in the conversation, reflecting their values back at them in ads – people who look like them, different family compositions, ages, and ethnicities – and in action.” I like the way this writer includes these subjects in their magazines because it creative and it shines through their work. This shows the good things about generation and what we believe in as a group and the changes we want to make. I want to do this for my magazine because it’s relevant and inspirational. That is why is the perfect magazine because it’s exciting and the perfect vehicle where I can share my story.
